- Recently, our project co-investigator Professor Sheri Markose was invited by the Central Bank of Canada in Ottawa to speak at their annual workshop on Digital Payments & Securities Settlement.
- Data & Information on 27-28 July 2023.
- This Workshop was co-sponsored by Payments Canada and Deutsche Bundesbank.
Sheri’s talk covered the use of bots to conduct arbitrage in decentralized electronic clearing and settlement for cryptocurrencies like Ethereum. These bots have fuelled the so called ‘battle of the bots’ as they compete to have their arbitrage trades included by the miners into the blockchain ledger.
- “Till the onset of digital payments, crypto-currencies and peer-peer electronic platforms or decentralized finance (Defi), payments infrastructure was considered to be like routine plumbing – not very interesting! The FinTech revolution has changed this, turbo charging research in this field at central banks and other stakeholders that manage RTGS”. ~ Sheri Markose
Sheri met with the teams at Bank of Canada and Payments Canada to discuss potential collaboration on the development of agent-based simulation models to assess the efficacy of new digital payments media.
